Jamaica was inhabited by the Arawak. In 1494 Jamaica was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1655 was Jamaica of the Brits. Jamaica had a large number of plantations, where slaves from West Africa were working. Slavery was abolished in 1838, the island was first of the Spaniards but then the Brits Jamaica were held. but Jamaica became independent at the end. at the time that the british owned Jamaica, Jamaica become a larger island.
